IMPORTANT REMINDER:

Indirect Care is evaluated during the Clinical Skills Performance.
Does the candidate:
- Greet resident, address by name, and introduce self?
- Provide explanations to resident about care before beginning and during care?
- Ask resident about preferences during care?
- Use Standard Precautions and infection control measures when providing care?
- Ask resident about comfort or needs during care or before care completed?
- Ask resident about comfort or needs during care or before care completed?
- Promote the resident’s rights during care?
- Promote the resident’s safety during care?
You MUST do these check offs for each skill.
- Greet resident, address by name, and introduce self?
- Provide explanations to resident about care before beginning and during care?
- Ask resident about preferences during care. TV on/off, books, curtain open/closed?
- Use Standard Precautions and infection control measures when providing care?
- Ask resident about comfort or needs during care completed?
- Ask resident to check water temp before cleaning patient when using Wash Basin.
- Promote resident’s rights during care? Privacy curtain – cover patient.
- Promote resident’s safety during care? Bed safely – raise and lower bed
Daily Study Format 15-30 minutes a day
- Watch Handwashing video.
- Practice Handwashing daily. MEMORIZE.
- Say out-loud the “Opening and Closing procedures.” YOU MUST MEMORIZE!
- Watch, study & memorize 1 or 2 videos a day.
- Take a piece of paper and WRITE.
What Linens and Equipment do I need?
a) HS Care – Hours of Sleep
b) Adult Clothing Protector NOT A BIB.
c) You are NOT licensed to dress any open wounds.
d) You can NOT CUT toe nails or finger nails.
e) Keep patient in the CENTER of the Bed – Bed SAFETY ISSUE
f) Catheter Care:
- Catheter bag hangs in the CENTER unmovable frame of the bed.
- Never RAISE the Cather Bag higher than the human body.
- Un-Tangle the Catheter Bad Tubs so urine may flow in and out.
- ADL – Activates of Daily Living.
- PPE – Personal Protective Equipment
REMEMBER THESE IMPORTANT SKILLS POINTS
- Do l use GLOVES for this Skill: Yes or No – If Yes – How many sets
- Wash Basin if used. 2 Water Temp Check
- Wash Basin – If you turn patient over for back FIRST: Tell Nursing you are checking the water temp.
- If too cold or dirty you will change it.
Remember If patient will be left on their SIDE – Remember:
A) Legs Together ~ Knees BENT together on top of each other
B) Neck – Pillow Supporting
C) ASK: Howis your Shoulder
5. If patient is in the CHAIR – SCOOT BACK SIT UP STRAIGHT / 2 Times.
6. If in the bed – OPTIONAL – Hospital Bed Up and Mandatory Down at End
7. REMEMBER: Wheelchair — Place shoes on BEFORE you lower the bed.
DO NOTALLOW FEET TO TOUCH FLOOR.
8. Lotions Skills: Hand & Nails. Upper Bed Bath Foot Care. Must Clean Top/Bottom/Toes Last – NO LOTION between the toes. Remember 1 Set of Gloves for JUST Lotion / Put on Remove after message.
9. Wash Cloths – 1 Washing with Soap and 1 for Rinsing.

4 = Peri-Care
4 = Cath Care
5 = Upper Bed Bath (1 Face No Soap-2 For Chest Are / 2 for Back )
Mouth Wiping Skills at end after swish and spit. 1= Brush Teeth
1=Denture Care
1= Bed Pan
1= Feeding
Cram Sheets exist for a reason. You may be good at studying, or you may not have time to study. Regardless, cram sheets exist to act as a quick reference in-between study sessions — and allow you to pass your CNA classes!
CLINICAL SKILLS PRE-TEST SKILL EVALAUTION
IMPORTANT:
You Can NEVER ABANDON A PATIENT in your care. You MUST WAIT until your replacement comes, before you can leave your assignment. You are responsible for that patient until you are discharged. If you leave them and they die, you are held responsible. This is for a patient that has full 24 hour care. course if you are with a weekly client or daily client then when you are done you can leave.
REMEMBER THE “RACE” SYSTEM FOR FIRE SAFETY:
Remove residents who are in immediate danger.
Activate the alarm to alert others.
Contain the fire by closing doors.
Extinguish the fire
